Eggy At The Edge of Seventeen

I'm not going to say Dani was flapping his arms but, well, yeah he absolutely was.

It wasn't a weird flap, mind you; this was not autistic stimming or anything. You just stop that. This was real stuff, emotion, excitement, flavorful, stylish - a little hop and a jump when the crescendoing notes were hit.

There's so many verses. So so many.

I think this is Jake. Seems to be Jake, but he's fearless so, I guess, maybe not. Now if I go and say something like, 'hell, they're all musically fearless', then you're going to find me a bootlicker, a sycophant, a scrub, a friggin' toady and a petty brown-noser - so I won't bother giving you that opportunity.

Except, well, you do have to admit, there are a lot of verses to Edge of Seventeen by Stevie Nicks. You got that right, pal. You try giving it a go, let's see you memorize that shiznit. Ok not so tough now are we?

<is anyone getting angry?>

< I don't think so, maybe just take it back a notch, ok.>

<One level down, inside voice and all that>

C'mon you know the one, Just like the white winged dove / Sings a song / Sounds like she's singing / Ooo baby ooo / Said ooo.

Yeah you croon it in the car, don't lie to me. You probably like it because of the distinctive 16th note guitar riff. What that's too heady for you? Too much musical lore? You don't like Em, do you? Is that the issue?

Ok, well the point is, Eggy is giving it a solid damn twirl in the green room before this past weekend's Deerfield show. This isn't some junky tease or single verse scenario - full blown, practice. It may not be quite what you imagine; it's certainly clear they know the song's core structure, but haven't yet figured out all of their component parts.

The parts that make it extra Eggy. Phones are out, so everyone can read along at the 470 words.

It comes in waves. Like an ocean liner perhaps? No, that's not it. More like a raft plodding along oceanside at the the edge of a poolside resort; someone there is kicking this over the loudspeaker, and so it's coming at you in bits n tips and yips; hell the crowd milling about waiting for the show three floors down could even be the sunbathers and poolside children chattering away.

There's a public soundcheck shortly (I mean, damn cool it was. Probably 150 people in attendance for a loose hour of music.), and they discuss the absolute necessity of playing Edge of Seventeen live, that night, of course, get right to it, has to happen, it's too good; so much so that they better, of course, no matter what, without even the inkling of a pause, do another run through in the soundcheck.

And with that, they head out.

No one pulled Stevie out that night, it never happened.

Did arms flap? Maybe, but not for this, not yet, maybe sometime. Maybe never.

But if it did?

Ooo baby ooo / Said ooo
